As a separate project I wanted to research into VRchat and see how experiences like socialising, creativity, reflection are affected by this new form of media, which I could use in the future for other projects or films.
Before I did this however I thought it would be a good idea to improve my 3d modelling and rigging skills, by creating a character and importing them as my avatar in virtual reality.

Since my character would be used to interview other inhabitants of a world he wasn't used to, I thought he should be alien enough that he felt misplaced, but not so unrecognisable that people couldn't relate to him.
because of this I decided to make him an insect, a cicada to be exact, as invertebrates feel far enough enough removed from us to feel alien.
I also wanted to explore his role as a narrative device like a cowboy or Ronin, someone who appears out of an expansive, desolate landscape into a community in turmoil, leading to a narrative which has something to say about issues relating to the real world. because of this I also wanted to give him a tool/ weapon for him to master like the archetype. this started off as a harmonica/ synth keyboard, but later moved onto a camera for him to log his findings on.
